What is the future of transportation?
January 29th 2010 marks the unofficial 124th birthday of the automobile. Karl Benz placed his paten for his vehicle, and that started the birth of what we now know as the car. Looking back and thinking about how far we have come in the industry excites me. In 124 years, the number of land speed records that have been set, racing, and transportation have all had major upgrades. In such a short amount of time no one can really know where we are going to be in another 124 years.
There is a Swiss company that believes we will have a vacuum styled tube that will get you around the world in .0083 days, in other words you could travel around the world in a little under 2 hours. You might think that is impossible. Ask the creators of the automobile in 1886 if they thought that the vehicles of today would have 180-200mph on the dash and would have the safety features they have, I highly doubt they would believe you considering Karl Benz first vehicle had a top speed of 16km/h. Traveling at 12,500 mph is not going to be easy. The swiss company Acabion, invasion a elevated track that pulls in solar power and the vehicle will inductively pull its energy from the track and is foreseeing a vehicle that by 2100 will be helping people actively travel from place to place at rapid speeds making the world a much smaller place. The vehicle will be sold for $3 million in 2015 but says the price will go down with mass production. Although, I do not plan on jumping to the bank and purchasing one of these vehicles it is a possibility that this could be a brilliant investment. Depending on if this idea actually works or not, but that is part of the risk.
